The Future Leaders Program provides people new to the tourism industry or in their final year of tourism studies the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals who are keen to share their expertise and offer guidance. In addition to further program inclusions, this exchange aims to strengthen the leadership capabilities of all participants while growing networks, enhancing collaboration between businesses and raising professional standards. As 2019 is a pilot program we have 9 mentees matched with 9 mentors.

Overarching program goals include:
• To provide opportunities for young professionals to learn from experienced tourism professionals
• For all participants to enhance their existing leadership skills to develop an agile future workforce
•To raise professional standards of the tourism industry while encouraging greater collaboration

The launch event began with a warm welcome from Regional Tourism Board member Roger Lancia who set the tone for the rest of the day. This event was the first opportunity for mentees and mentors taking part to meet each other. Following a breakfast overlooking Port Phillip Bay the group heard from positive psychology expert Mel Neil who will be facilitating three sessions with the group over the next 5 months. This session inspired the group to think about what type of leadership is needed in the future and how they can be the best that they can. Following sessions included professional development to ensure that both mentees and mentors will get the most value out of the program and tools for assisting them along the way.

Over the coming months' mentees will meet with their mentors, attend Educational Famils both in the region and out, take part in a round table morning tea with tourism leaders and be engaged at the MPRT Annual Summit.
